Writing: Various Papers

Here you can find some samples of texts written by me during my B.Sc. studies at the University of Bremen.
IT-Recht: Softwarepatente und die Rechtsprechung des BGH
Patent Law and Software (PDF, 57KB)
Final paper for a seminar held by Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Rödiger, summer term 2007. This paper deals with the topic of software patents and the respective jurisdiction of the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH). It was an interesting experience to do research on a juridical topic because such texts differ vastly from the usual literature encountered during "normal" work and life.
Image Acquisition
Image Acquisition (PDF, 1275KB)
As the name suggests, this is a brief introduction to image acquisition written for the proseminar on image processing held by Prof. Dr. Björn Gottfried during summer semester 2007. If you ever wondered what a "PET scan" is, this might be for you.
Geared towards laymen in image processing, I tried to give an interesting and broad overview rather than diving deeply into scientific details. The rather big file size is a result of the numerous images used throughout the paper to illustrate the concepts.
New Media and New Users
Neue Medien und Neue Nutzer (PDF, 94KB)
This is my final paper for the course "Vom Nutzen einer guten Theorie für die Gestaltung Digitaler Medien" by Prof. Dr. Heidelinde Schelhowe. In this paper, the 3D suite Blender is used as a concrete example of Lev Manovich's five abstract principles of New Media:
- Numerical representation
- Modularity
- Automation
- Variability
- Transcoding
Furthermore I tried to derive from these principles or properties the way open source content production tools can influence the way we deal with media and content.
